[At some point in the afternoon, Fell will receive a bouquet of summer flowers. The attached note reads:]
I hope these brighten up your day. Also, don't worry about Monday. It's tradition in our family to bitch about everything. They will care for you in the end
[well, Anthony's side would, but that was the only side that mattered in this equation]

I'm here to talk when you need to.
Text
You ok? You left so quick after your mum went off everyone was wondering.
no subject
[At least with his side of the family involved.]
I'm fine.
[What else were you expecting?]
You? Did everything work out?
no subject
Typical family meet and greet. They always leave you feeling inadequate and full of regrets. Mostly about having gone in the first place.
But they'll get over it. They will have to. I'm not giving him up.
no subject
Because ultimately it's your life and they'll adapt and accept it once they see how you two are.
[He has every confidence in this. Mostly because he has a feeling Anthony is going to change because of this. Become something more. He hopes to be around to see it]
I'm proud of you, little brother.
no subject
I wouldn't mind them adapting a little quicker than they are.
[ Change came slowly, he knew, but some times it seemed to ooze along at a snail's pace! ]
How'd you and your da get on after you left? You get a chance to smooth things over with him?
no subject
[he looked at the phone a moment]
Nothing's changed.
[he still wasn't sure Dad had even left New York. Nor Mum for that matter. He was pretty sure she'd gone but after that night it was almost as if they'd never come. Aunt Evelyn had texted him she was leaving. He'd deleted it without replying but it still burned in him]
Anyway, let me know if you need help with Lilith. [what help he could be but it would at least give him something to focus on]
no subject
[ He'll concede that maybe he was being overly anxious to have this all sorted. ]
Mum seems ok with it at least. She left a casserole for you and a tin of tarts for Fell. She flies out on Sunday with Oliver. Who knows what he thinks about all this. Every time I see him he just stares. It's like being around a bloody statue. Lilith is still mad at me, I think. We've spoken but you know how she is. Always has to check into the people I chose to date.
[ And Fell had not been properly vetted at all! ]
You haven't heard from anyone on your side? I could look into it. Make a few calls?
no subject
[An approach he hasn't tried but then Oliver has never bothered him and likewise. Lilith-- well he's already said his piece but he's never really talked with her either. Still he'll go up against her again if Anthony needs him to]
She does like to meddle. Probably overprotective.
[that's what you get for being the baby of the family]
Look into what? What do you care what they think? Give Dad a week and he'll think[the sun shines out of your arse but no. Anthony didn't need that] nothing about it.
no subject
[ And there were many late night places around the city! ]
Not like anyone I know.
[ It was the trouble of being the youngest. Everyone always felt you needed looking after. And... ok, maybe sometimes you did. ]
They are your parents, I thought you might want to know what they were doing?
no subject
[though he called it fussy. If Anthony didn't see it yet, he would as soon as Fell's shyness disappeared.
A sigh then at the other part of that message]
Don't bother. We keep out of each other's way. The only reason they came down was out of parental obligation but they're better off in their own lives.
no subject
[ Course he also had his love shades on so if Fell had been fussy with him it had only come across as adorable. ]
So you pointed out. Still, it sucks. You deserve better than that.
no subject
[a smile]
But I'm glad yours is shaping up to be something close to it.
no subject
[ And he had half a mind to contact Alec's side anyway, give them an earful that they wouldn't listen to... then sign them up for every spam bot in the western hemisphere. Vengeance was a new sensation but it did sound like a fun idea. ]
Feel like getting out for a while? There's going to be this beach thing, just sitting around a burn barrel I think. Nothing having to do with actual water. Might be nice just to go and grab an ice cream down there?
no subject
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and gets into everything. Not fond of Eliot either.
[and he knows the only reason he invites Alec anywhere is out of pity. Fell too. And if Anthony meant it that way, at least it didn't come off like it]
You and Fell enjoy yourselves. [since he's pretty sure Fell is going to get asked, if not by Anthony, at least by Eliot. And Alec really wanted to break the habit of being the third wheel]
no subject
[ Anthony had said he would ask Alec along because of Fell but he actually did like hanging with his cousin, especially now when some how they felt closer than they had ever been before. This was something he didn't want to risk losing again. ]
Ice balls then, later. Or dinner, just the two of us. We'll leave all the drama behind.
no subject
And that girl. He wondered if she was part of it. An extension of that fear. But why did he feel such grief and fear when he looked at her bloated face? Why did he feel so much guilt?
Even if the bureau could implant false memories, they couldn't implant emotions... Could they?
He shook his head and tried to push it away]
Ice ball?
A dinner sounds good. Drama free sounds even better.
I am so tired, Anthony.
no subject
[ He was tired. Anthony imagined he could actually hear how tired Alec was just from the way he typed. ]
You can get a rest now that everyone is going home. A proper rest. All the books and tea you want. Don't even look at the network or your phone for a week. It'll be a vacation.
no subject
[and people that crunched it between their teeth always made him wince]
Can't stay off the network but I might-- give it a wee rest.
[he had to know what was going on, but he could at least be passive about it]
Let me know how it goes. The party, I mean. Or anything that's happening.
[he doesn't want to tell Anthony to keep in contact. That he's gotten used to keeping in contact with him.... And looked forward to it]
no subject
[ He was going to hold onto that connection with Alec just as tightly as he could. ]
And we'll still do that 'just the two of us dinner'. You pick the place, wherever you want to go.
no subject
Don't grow up too quickly.
[it was a joke, but he was surprised how much he meant it]
There's a Pad Thai place that isn't bad.
no subject
[ What he said was - chaperoning the kids
What he meant was - smuggling in some illegal booze and maybe spiriting Fell away under some quiet deserted boardwalk for a cuddle
Look, if the kids got into trouble he would help! But really, what could go wrong at a burn barrel?? ]
Sounds good. I love Thai. How do you feel about motorcycles? I could spin around and pick you up on Tuesday?
no subject
[ a smirk, unseen]
No. I'll take a cab.
[they were terrifying]
no subject
[ You brought up clothing, you have only yourself to blame! ]
Suit yourself, but you are missing out on an experience.
no subject
And no thank you. Are you trying to kill me faster?
no subject
[ Back home he has a laugh over that as he could easily imagine Alec's white knuckle flight down the New York streets. Motorcycles weren't for everyone. ]
Nah, you can taxi, it's cool. I want you to stick around.
no subject
[because swimming was part of the mandatory curriculum-- but he'd refused to get in the water no matter how much he'd been mocked for it. He also doesn't want to know what Anthony is referring to and glad he wasn't told.]
You too. Wear a helmet.
no subject
[ Never a big swimmer Alec. ]
I always do. Cops stop you if you aren't. I do not need a ticket for that.
no subject
And good. Need you around for a long time.
