Some days I want a do-over, but I'm not convinced it would be much better.

[ This was one of those deep questions, the sort that allowed people's imaginations to run wild dreaming about bigger houses, cars, all the stuff they thought would make their lives better. He doubted Alec would answer or if he even knew what it was he wanted. ]

I couldn't tell you even if I wanted to. I ran out of dreams a long time ago.

[ He watched Alec in silence as if that might help him understand but eventually he had to say something. ]

Nah. [maybe in years past, but he's gotten to the point where there's little left to let go of and he's a little proud of that]

It's not going to suddenly give me ambitions, you know. This is who I am and no amount of 'getting me out' is going to change me into who you think I should be.

[ He plunked the spring that kept stabbing him in the tail feathers. ]

And maybe with the bonus of more comfortable furniture.

I won't enjoy it. Trust me. And it's fine. Stop worrying so much about me. Haven't you got enough on your plate?

[ He stood and stretched until every joint and muscle in his back popped loud enough to be heard. ]

[ Meaning he would be picking up Grace's favorites on the way to her place. Best apology in the world was an epic sushi platter and some Hong Kong Chicken. ]

[ An answering hand flap just before he slipped out the apartment door meant he always stayed out of trouble. ]
